The zero-emission Nissan LEAF returns for its second year on the market
in 2012. The first fully-electric vehicle to be marketed in North
America, the LEAF was voted the 2011 World Car of the Year at the New
York International Auto Show, and returns with a heartier offering of
standard features. You can find the 2012 Nissan LEAF at Napleton Nissan

Performance & Handling
The fully-electric 2012 LEAF come equipped with an 80 kW AC synchronous
motor that is powered by a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This
combination produces 107 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, and
Nissan notes that the LEAF enjoys instant 100 percent torque at 0mpg.
The LEAF also features a regenerative breaking system that, while
driving in Eco mode, can extend driving range up to 10 percent. The EPA
estimates an MPGe rating of 106 mpg city/92 mpg highway and 99 mpg
combined.
Additional features include an automatic battery heater that activates
when the outside temperature drops below that which the battery can
perform well in, a 3.3 kW onboard charger, a 120V portable trickle
charging cable, and the SL trim adds both a Quick Charge Port and a
spoiler-mounted solar panel to help charge the 12-V accessory
battery. |

Standard Features &
Options
As previously mentioned, the 2012 incarnation of the Nissan LEAF comes
with more options standard than its 2011 forerunner. Standard on the
base trim come features including these: aerodynamic LED headlights,
front UV-reducing solar glass, a remote-charge door release, front and
rear heated seats, partially recycled light gray cloth seat fabric, a
heated-spoke steering wheel, palm-shift drive selector, Nissan
Intelligent Key and Push Button Start, a Bluetooth Hands-free Phone
System, Automatic Temperature Control (ATC), remote keyless entry, power
door locks with auto-locking feature, power windows with driver's
one-touch auto up/down feature, cruise control with steering
wheel-mounted controls, an auxiliary 12-volt DC power outlet, an
AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with MP3/WMA playback capability, XM Satellite
Radio, auxiliary audio input jack, USB connection port for iPod
interface and other compatible devices, steering wheel-mounted audio
controls, Nissan Navigation System with 7-inch color display, XM
NavTraffic, and the CARWINGS connect to Nissan LEAF system.
The upgraded SL trim offers a few upgrades, including fog lights, a
RearView Monitor, a photovoltaic solar panel on the rear spoiler,
automatic on/off headlights, a cargo cover, and a HomeLink Universal
Transceiver. |

The 2012 Nissan LEAF received "Good" ratings on all tests performed by
the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and comes standard with these
features: the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (dual-stage supplemental
front air bags with seat-belt and occupant-classification sensors,
driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air
bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags for front
and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection), Vehicle Dynamic
Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS), 3-point seat belts for
all seating positions, front seat belts with pretensioners and load
limiters, LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren), front-
and rear-seat height-adjustable headrests, an energy-absorbing steering
column, zone body construction with front and rear crumple zones, and a
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). |
